  1. 16. Eosinophilic dermatosis implications of skin-commensal bacteria and antimicrobial peptides and proteins at birth

    Författare :Annika Nelson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : At birth, the newborn infant is transferred from a sterile life in utero to an earthly life in coexistence with microbes. This transition includes the potential danger of a microbial invasion through the epithelial linings, and the infant must find a balance between elimination of harmful pathogens and cooperation with microorganisms that are of benefit. 2. 17. Experimental and clinical studies on liver regeneration and hepatocellular carcinoma : roles of redox proteins, iron homeostasis and multikinase inhibition

    Författare :Annelie Mollbrink; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Compensatory liver regeneration is triggered by chronic liver injury or surgery and is crucial to maintain tissue homeostasis. The underlying mechanisms which include a whole battery of complex signaling events have been thoroughly studied for decades. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Temporomandibular joint involvement by systemic inflammatory disease with reference to pain modulation and joint tissue destruction

    Författare :Ülle Voog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute phase proteins; Computed tomography; Cytokines; Granisetron; Inflammation; Pain; Serotonin; Temporomandibular joint; Visual Analogue Scale.;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic inflammatory diseases may cause progressive destruction in the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ). Involvement of this joint is associated with many clinical signs and symptoms of which pain is a major problem. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Fecal calprotectin in children with special reference to inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Ulrika Lorentzon Fagerberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Biological markers; calcium-binding proteins; Leukocyte L1 Antigen Complex; calprotectin; acute- phase proteins; serum amyloid A; C-reactive protein; ELISA; feces; blood; children; adolescent; colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; colonoscopy; reference values; diagnosis.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the clinical usefulness of fecal calprotectin as a noninvasive marker of colonic inflammation in children with suspected or confirmed chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Calprotectin, a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in neutrophils, is stable in feces for several days, and can be measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Functions of integrin receptors in extravascular neutrophil migration and respiratory burst

    Författare :Joachim Werr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adhesion molecules; leukocyte migration; neutrophils; chemotaxis; integrins; respiratory burst; leukocyte extravasation; extracellular matrix; intravital microscopy; acute inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Leukocytes circulate in the vasculature, but, must leave the blood stream and migrate through the surrounding tissue to exert their protective functions in inflammation. Numerous studies have revealed that intravascular leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions involve functions of adhesion molecules belonging to the selectin and integrin receptor families. LÄS MER
