21. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis
Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 22. Acute pancreatitis - Cellular response and dynamic inflammatory changes
Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disorder where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and the remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The aim of the present study was to further characterize the dynamics and sequence of the immune response in AP, and to determine the cellular origin of the initiating events. LÄS MER
23. Regional Lung Kinetics of Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury and Protective-Ventilation Strategies Studied by Dynamic Positron Emission Tomography
Sammanfattning : Mechanical ventilation in itself can harm the lung and cause ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), which can induce or aggravate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Much debate remains over pivotal concepts regarding the pathophysiology of VILI, especially about the precise contribution, kinetics, and primary role of potential VILI mechanisms. LÄS MER
24. Novel diagnostics and treatment of acute lung injury and transplantation - Preclinical and clinical implementation
Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury (ALI) and its most severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) limit the utilization of donor lungs for transplantation but is also a common cause of death in the intensive care unit. There is a general lack of diagnostic tools by which to assess lung function in ARDS but, in addition, the treatments offered are limited. LÄS MER
25. The role of nitric oxide in porcine models of asthma and acute lung injury
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is a modulator of many important physiological processes in the body. It is produced endogenously in several cell types by a family of NO synthases (NOS). LÄS MER
