  1. 1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 2. Cellular Immune Responses to Allografts and Cytomegalovirus

    Författare :Mats Engstrand; Olle Korsgren; Gunnar Tufveson; Nils Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Transplantation; Rejection; Monitoring; Flow Cytometry; MHC; Tetramer; CMV; infection; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Today the immunosuppressive treatment is kept to a level were the incidence of acute rejection is below 20% within the first year after transplantation. As a consequence, a group of transplanted patients is over-immunosuppressed and at risk for infections. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The balance between under- and over-immunosuppression after heart transplantation with emphasis on acute cellular rejection and chronic kidney disease. Experiences from Skåne University Hospital in Lund 1988-2010

    Författare :Carl Söderlund; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :heart transplantation; immunosuppression; acute cellular rejection; chronic kidney disease; generic; heart transplantation; immunosuppression; acute cellular rejection; chronic kidney disase; generic;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims:Heart transplantation (HT) constitutes the ultimate treatment choice for end-stage heart failure. Following HT, patients require life-long immunosuppressive treatment to prevent allograft rejection. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Intestinal transplantation: Outcome, complications and diagnostic approach

    Författare :Jonas Varkey; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intestinal transplantation; rejection; endoscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Intestinal transplantation is a potentially lifesaving procedure conducted in candidates with e.g. intestinal failure. However, a limiting factor has been the complications, which are inherent to the procedure, along with the inadequacies of current modalities to establish a prompt diagnosis of acute cellular rejection. 5. 5. Islet Xenotransplantation : An Experimental Study of Barriers to Clinical Transplantation

    Författare :Peter Schmidt; Olle Korsgren; Bo Nilsson; Karin Ulrichs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; xenotransplantation; islets of Langerhans; rejection; diabetes; porcine endogenous retroviruses; quantitative RT-PCR; cytokines; animal models; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of transplantation, the increasing deficit of human donors have lead to an interest in animals as an alternative source of organs and tissues. Different in vitro systems and rodent models of xenotransplantation were used to examine the most significant barriers that have to be overcome, before isolated islets of Langerhans from pigs can be used as a cure for insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in humans.
