1. Physical activity assessed by accelerometry in children
Sammanfattning : Physical activity (PA) is likely to constitute an important aspect of health-related behaviour in growing children. However, the knowledge on levels and patterns of PA in children is limited, due to the difficulty of precisely measuring this complex behaviour in normal daily living. LÄS MER
2. Assessing Physical Activity and Physical Capacity in Subjects with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to assess measurement properties of methods suitable for screening or monitoring of physical capacity and physical activity in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to explore factors associated with physical activity levels. Methods: Four observational studies were conducted. 3. Aspects of physical activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis : associations with inflammation and cardiovascular risk factors
Sammanfattning : Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), partially attributable to systemic inflammation and traditional risk factors for CVD. Since physical activity (PA) is strongly related to CVD in the general population, the aim of this thesis was to describe aspects of PA in patients with RA, and further to analyse associations with disease activity, traditional risk factors for CVD and subclinical atherosclerosis. 4. Nanomaterials for membranes and catalysts
Sammanfattning : Nanotechnology is a relatively new research topic that attracts increasing interest from scientists and engineers all over the world, due to its novel applications. The use of nanomaterials has extended to a broad range of applications, for example chemical synthesis, microporous media synthesis and catalytic combustion, contributing to achievement of improved or promising results. 5. A 6 month physical activity intervention in university staff : effectiveness and health outcomes : the ASUKI Step Study
Sammanfattning : Physical inactivity is regarded a major public health concern and regular physical activity (PA) has been considered as an important lifestyle modification to improve health and prevent chronic disease. Setting the goal at walking 10,000 steps/day as a moderate-intensity form of aerobic PA has been advised to have beneficial health effects in the research and practice areas. LÄS MER
