  1. 1. Exercise-induced muscle soreness : a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    Författare :Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work. 2. 2. Active Muscle Responses in a Finite Element Human Body Model

    Författare :Jonas Östh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; feedback control; autonomous braking; finite element; human body model; active muscle; posture maintenance; reflexive response;

    Sammanfattning : The development of automotive safety systems is moving towards an integration of systems thatare active before and during an impact. Consequently, there is a need to make a combinedanalysis of both the pre-crash and the in-crash phases, which leads to new requirements forHuman Body Models (HBMs) that today are used for crash simulations. 3. 3. Sceletal muscle characteristics and physical activity patterns in COPD

    Författare :Gabriella Eliason; Karin Phiel Aulin; Lundberg Ingrid; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; muscle morphology; muscle fibre distribution; muscle capillarization; physical activity; von Hippel-Lindau protein; exercise capacity; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; Sports; Idrott; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Besides abnormities within the respiratory system COPD is also associated with effects outside the lungs, so called systemic effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Muscle function in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis : A two-year follow-up

    Författare :Hans Lindehammar; Lars Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; arthritis; juvenile rheumatoid; physiopathology; muscle; skeletal; pathology; physiopathology; Muscular atrophy; etiology; physiopathology; arthritis; juvenile rheumatoid; complications; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : This is a study of muscle function in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease that primarily affects the synovial membrane of joints. Muscle weakness, atrophy and pain occur in adult RA. This may be a consequence of joint pain, stiffness and immobility. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mechanochemical Modeling of Smooth Muscle Activation

    Författare :Sae-Il Murtada; Gerhard A. Holzapfel; Robert McMeeking; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biomechanics; Muscle contraction; Smooth muscle; Contractile unit; Filament overlap; Intracellular calcium; Carotid artery; Mathematical model;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle has an important role in several physiological processes, where it regulates the wall tension and the size of hollow organs. In blood vessels, the contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle contribute to the mechanical stability of the vessel wall and determines the diameter. LÄS MER
