  1. 1. Novel pharmacological treatment alternatives for nicotine dependence

    Författare :Nina Lindblom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nicotine; dependence; withdrawal; reinstatement; smoking; active immunisation; immunoconjugate; vaccine; dopamine stabiliser; - -DS121; dopamine; nucleus accumbens; intra cranial selfstimulation;

    Sammanfattning : Smoking has been identified as the single largest preventable cause of morbidity and premature death in the developed world. Despite the well known health risks associated with smoking the number of smokers are still rising globally. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Respiratory tract infections, reflex apnea and sudden infant death : experimental and epidemiological studies with special reference to respiratory syncytial virus, Bordetella pertussis and sleep position

    Författare :Carl Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bordetella pertussis; Infection; Interleukins; Laryngeal chemoreflex; Respiratory syncytial virus; Reflex apnea; Sleep; Sleeping position; Sudden infant death;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal distribution of Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) followed the prevalence of respiratory tract infections (RTI) when prone sleeping position was recommended, but this covariation has recently been attenuated. Airway infections in the young infant are known to produce respiratory disturbances. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Natural and induced immunity against the tumour-associated antigen, Ep-CAM

    Författare :Szilvia Mosolits; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Tumour immunology; Ep-CAM; anti-idiotypic antibodies; vaccination;

    Sammanfattning : The tumour-associated antigen (TAA), Ep-CAM is overexpressed on various human carcinomas, including colorectal carcinoma (CRC). TAAs or their immunodominant epitopes that are spontaneously recognised by the immune system might constitute a suitable target for immunotherapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immune activation during HIV-1 infection : implication for B cell dysfunctions and therapy monitoring

    Författare :Angelo De Milito; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV; B cell memory; hypergammaglobulinemia; immune activation; Fas-FasL; CD27-CD70;

    Sammanfattning : Aberrant activation of cells of the immune system plays a major role in the pathogenesis of HIV infection. The major aims of the thesis were: (a) to measure the effects of current antiretroviral therapy on immune activation through the analysis of soluble activation markers; (b) to evaluate the extent of T and B cell immune activation in relation to immunological and virological parameters; (c) to analyse the T-B cell molecular pathway leading to hyperactivation of B cells and loss of B cell function. 5. 5. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation in children : identification and prevention of complications : adoptive transfer of EBV-immunity

    Författare :Åsa Gustafsson Jernberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Children; CTL; EBV; Graft-versus-leukaemia; Stemcell transplantation; unrelated;

    Sammanfattning : Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) can cure leukaemia, aplastic anaemia, and some inborn errors of metabolism and immunodeficiencies in children. As only 113 of patients who need SCT have an HLA-identical sibling, the use of alternative donors has increased, to over 50% of all paediatric SCTs at our centre. LÄS MER
