Sammanfattning : As pharmaceutical removal was not part of the of the modern wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) design, it is not surprising that WWTPs have been identified as major point sources of pharmaceuticals entering the environment. The oxidation of pharmaceuticals in the WWTP effluent is one of the-end-of-pipe solutions that are considered most ready for full-scale use. LÄS MER
18. Pharmaceutical compounds; a new challenge for wastewater treatment plants
Sammanfattning : Analytical analyses conducted at the Himmerfjärden WWTP (285.000 PE connected) identified 70 pharmaceutical compounds belonging to different therapeutic classes. Such organic micropollutants at low detected concentration range of µg - ng l-1 did not affect the treatment processes at WWTP. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Abstract The present work investigates i) the occurrence and removal of pharmaceuticals at Swedish WWTPs, and ii) potential causes for differences in the removal efficiency of pharmaceuticals at wastewater treatment plants. Particular attention is directed at the biological treatment and the pharmaceutical removal capacity per unit biomass of activated sludges and carrier biofilms of different origins. LÄS MER
20. On the Verifiability of the Activated Sludge System Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Wastewater treatment processes are inherently dynamic because of variations in the influent flow rate, concentration, and composition. The adaptive behaviour of the microorganisms further emphasizes this fact. Mathematical models and computer simulations are essential to describe, predict, and control the complicated interactions of the processes. LÄS MER
