  1. 1. Mind in Action : Action Representation and the Perception of Biological Motion

    Författare :Paul Hemeren; Högskolan i Skövde; []

    Sammanfattning : The ability to understand and communicate about the actions of others is a fundamental aspect of our daily activity. How can we talk about what others are doing? What qualities do different actions have such that they cause us to see them as being different or similar? What is the connection between what we see and the development of concepts and words or expressions for the things that we see? To what extent can two different people see and talk about the same things? Is there a common basis for our perception, and is there then a common basis for the concepts we form and the way in which the concepts become lexicalized in language? The broad purpose of this thesis is to relate aspects of perception, categorization and language to action recognition and conceptualization. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Physical Foundation of the Patterning of Physical Action Verbs : A Study of Chinese Verbs

    Författare :Hong Gao; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Languages and literatures of South and South-East Asia; verbal semantics; trajector; semantic representation; pyscholingistics; polysemy; physical reality; physical foundation; physical action verbs; observability; motion; lexicalization patterning; landmark; intentionality; innateness; physical contact; force-dynamics; combinability; conflation; cognitive semantics; active zone; affectability; Chinese; Kinesiska och språk och litteratur från Syd- och Sydostasien; Linguistics; Lingvistik; Grammar; semantics; semiotics; syntax; Grammatik; semantik; semiotik;

    Sammanfattning : This work is a study of verbal semantics with a focus on the discussion and illustration of the role of body parts and the semantic incorporation into verbal roots of the actions that involve various body parts. Following a general discussion of the basic issues of language construction and human body actions with the image schemas of force-dynamics presented in line with the framework of cognitive semantics, it is argued that the event structures of physical action verbs are not arbitrarily constructed but rather the constructions are built through systematic cognitive processes in relation to both human physical reality and concrete reality in the world. 4. 4. From physical to mental acquisition : a corpus-based study of verbs

    Författare :Marie Nordlund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Svenska med didaktisk inriktning; Swedish and Education;

    Sammanfattning : Based on the hypothesis that the frame to which a verb is linked influences how easily that verb can be extended into the mental domain, the aim of this thesis is to carry out a lexico-semantic analysis of the six verbs acquire, buy, gather, grasp, receive and seize. These verbs were chosen because they can express physical as well as mental acquisition and because they are linked to frames of varying complexity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspekte des Dativs : Zur Relation zwischen der Dativ-DP und der Ereignisstruktur der Verben in ditransitiven Konstruktionen im Deutschen

    Författare :Edith Ekberg; Tyska; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; action chain; construction grammar; structural licensing; case; inalienable possession; possessor dative; beneficiary dative; Keywords: ditransitive construction; free vs. selected indirect objects; lexical vs. constructional profiling; event structure; First-Phase Syntax;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract in UndeterminedAbstractThe aim of this study is to investigate the structural licensing and the semantics of the dative-DP in ditransitive constructions in German from a cognitive and construction grammar perspective.While the indirect object in constructions with prototypical ditransitive verbs is said to be a lexically selected argument of the verb, the indirect object in beneficiary ditransitive constructions and ditransitive possessor dative constructions with (in)transitive verbs is traditionally categorized as a “free” dative.
