  1. 21. Propofol changes the cytoskeletal function in neurons : An experimental study in cortical cultures

    Författare :Dean Turina; Christina Eintrei; Karin Björnström Karlsson; Lindahl Sten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Propofol; cytoskeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Every day, general anaesthetics are given to a large number of patients around the world but the cellular mechanisms of how anaesthetics act are still not clear. General anaesthetics cause the intended unconsciousness, amnesia and immobility in patients, but also side effects such as a decrease in mean arterial pressure and arrhythmia, both of which contribute to complications such as heart damage and stroke. 2. 22. Macromolecular interactions, Consequences on carbohydrate metabolism

    Författare :Sandra Matic; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macromolecular interactions; sucrose synthase; macromolecular crowding; cytoskeleton; BY-2 tobacco cells; alamethicin; aqueous polymer two-phase partitioning;

    Sammanfattning : Most cells are crowded with solutes, enzymes, nucleic acids, structural proteins and membranes. Crowding promotes macromolecular interactions and determines major properties of the cellular environment such as viscosity, diffusion and inhomogeneity. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Adseverin – An Immune-Specific Target of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin

    Författare :Camilla Svensson; Lars Wärngård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; 2; 3; 7; 8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin; TCDD; adseverin; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; immunotoxicity; thymus; cytoskeleton; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces thymus atrophy and immunosuppression in all animal species examined and these effects constitute a potential risk to humans. TCDD can via binding to the intracellular aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), modulate transcription of a number of genes and the aim of this thesis has been to identify such genes, which may explain the mechanisms behind TCDD-mediated immunotoxicity. 4. 24. The surface complex of Euglena gracilis. Involvement in cellular movements and biochemical and molecular analyses of the components

    Författare :Silja K Petersen-Mahrt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-B radiation; tubulin; surface complex; plasma membrane; phylogeny; phototaxis; nitrogen deficiency; membrane skeleton; Euglena gracilis; actin; cell shape; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The flagellate Euglena gracilis shows rhythms in phototaxis and cell shape changes between oblong and round. Artificial UV-B radiation of 0.5 W m-2 caused a loss in phototaxis, but the peak of activity occurred at the same time as for control cells. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Intra- and Extracellular Modulation of Integrin-directed Connective Tissue Cell Contraction

    Författare :Tijs van Wieringen; Kristofer Rubin; Anders Arner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interstitial fluid pressure; PDGF-BB; bacterial proteins; αVβ3 integrin; cytoskeleton; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : All blood vessels in the microvasculature are embedded in loose connective tissue, which regulates the transport of fluid to and from tissues. The intersti-tial fluid pressure (IFP) is one of the forces that control this transport. LÄS MER
