1. Inflammation and impaired adipogenesis in human white adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to study inflammation and adipogenesis capacity in human subcutaneous white adipose tissue with respect to the development of obesity and associated comorbidities, including insulin resistance. Study I showed that the transcription factor, MAFB, was associated with increased adiposity and involved in regulation of TNFα-mediated inflammatory response, yet did not seem to directly influence adipogenesis or metabolism in human adipocytes. 2. On Acute Thrombo-Embolic Occlusion of the Superior Mesenteric Artery
Sammanfattning : Acute thrombo-embolic occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) with intestinal infarction is a lethal disease, difficult to diagnose in time, with unknown incidence and cause-specific mortality. The aim of this thesis was to characterize the disease and to develop diagnostic methods. LÄS MER
3. Recombinant BRICHOS domains delivered over the blood-brain barrier : a possible way to treat Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : One of the current major challenges to treat neurological diseases is the ability of drug candidates to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia worldwide, affecting more people every year due to a world where the average lifespan is increasing. LÄS MER
4. Historical anthropogenic radiative forcing of changes in biogenic secondary organic aerosol
Sammanfattning : Human activities have lead to changes in the energy balance of the Earth and the global climate. Changes in atmospheric aerosols are the second largest contributor to climate change after greenhouse gases since 1750 A.D. LÄS MER
5. CT Guided Ablation of T1 Renal Tumors
Sammanfattning : The widespread use of medical imaging contributes to the increased detection of incidentally detected small renal tumors, a majority which are often indolent masses found in elderly patients with preexisting chronic kidney disease. In Sweden, partial nephrectomy with minimal invasive surgical approach is the current standard for removing these tumors, although another option is percutaneous image-guided tumor ablation that allows treatment of elderly patients with comorbidities for who surgery is a risk.
