11. Mechanisms and genes controlling the signalling network for biotic and abiotic stress defences in Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heyhn : Functional cross-talk between photo-produced reactive oxygen species, photosynthesis and plant disease defence responses
Sammanfattning : Excess excitation energy, mechanical injury and defence against pathogens, each trigger rapid production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Arabidopsis thaliana leaves. ROS, such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), are required for the induction of systemic acquired acclimation and may lead to redox changes in photosynthetic electron transport (PET). LÄS MER
12. Dietary Fatty Acids and Inflammation : Observational and Interventional Studies
Sammanfattning : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. LÄS MER
13. RsbX and stress response in Listeria monocytogenes
Sammanfattning : Listeria monocytogenes is a ubiquitous foodborne Gram-positive bacterium. Despite being mainly a soil bacterium, it can reach the food processing environment and contaminate food destined for human consumption, causing outbreaks. LÄS MER
14. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways
Sammanfattning : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods. 15. Insulin-Producing Cells, Iron, Oxidative Stress, and Lysosomal Pathology
Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that injnries caused by oxygen-derived radicals contribute to the destruction of pancreatic islet ß-cells in autoinnnune diabetes mellitus (diabetes type I, or IDDM). Oxidative stress may be caused by an enhanced production of oxygen-derived radicals, or by a decreased scavenging of such molecules. LÄS MER
