  1. 11. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Författare :Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Modeling Biochemical Network Involved in Striatal Dopamine Signaling

    Författare :Anu G. Nair; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Omar Gutierrez Arenas; Upinder Singh Bhalla; Jakob Kisbye Dreyer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dopamine signaling; Striatum; Reward learning; Acetylcholine; Mass-action modeling; FRET biosensor; Adenosine; Eligibility trace; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I studied the molecular integration of reward-learning related neuromodulatory inputs by striatal medium-sized projection neurons (MSNs) using mass-action kinetic modeling.It is known that, in reward learning, an unexpected reward results in transient elevation in dopamine (peak) whereas omission of an expected reward leads to transient dopamine decrease (dip). 3. 13. Innervation patterns and locally produced signal substances in the human patellar tendon : of importance when understanding the processes of tendinosis

    Författare :Patrik Danielson; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; Graham Riley; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; patellar tendon; innervation; tendinosis; tendinopathy; acetylcholine; catecholamines; muscarinic receptors; adrenergic receptors; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : Tendinosis is a condition of chronic pain that afflicts several human tendons, not least the patellar tendon, in which case it is often clinically referred to as ‘jumper’s knee’. The exact mechanisms behind tendinosis are yet not fully understood. LÄS MER

  4. 14. New Electrochemical Tools to Study Exocytosis

    Författare :Joakim Wigström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amperometry; QCM-D; micro electrode array; large dense core vesicles; chromaffin cells; PC-12 cells; microelectrode; exocytosis; electrochemical cytometry; electrochemical imaging; acetylcholine; endocytosis; nanoparticles; enzyme biosensor; microfabrication;

    Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis has the focus on the development of new analytical tools to study processes related to cellular secretion (exocytosis) in cell models. Four novel techniques were developed, allowing new ways to study processes related to exocytosis, and gain previously unattainable knowledge. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Modeling receptor induced signaling in MSNs : Interaction between molecules involved in striatal synaptic plasticity

    Författare :Anu G. Nair; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Omar Gutierrez-Arenas; Upinder S. Bhalla; Pierre Vincent; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Striatal synaptic plasticity; LTP; Dopamine; Acetylcholine; Synergy; Medium spiny neurons; MSNs;

    Sammanfattning : Basal Ganglia are evolutionarily conserved brain nuclei involved in several physiologically important animal behaviors like motor control and reward learning. Striatum, which is the input nuclei of basal ganglia, integrates inputs from several neurons, like cortical and thalamic glutamatergic input and local GABAergic inputs. LÄS MER
