6. Inherent Safety Features and Passive Prevention Approaches for Pb/Bi-cooled Accelerator-Driven Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the investigation of passivesafety and inherent features of subcritical nucleartransmutation systems - accelerator-driven systems. The generalobjective of this research has been to improve the safetyperformance and avoid elevated coolant temperatures inworst-case scenarios like unprotected loss-of-ow accidents,loss-of-heat-sink accidents, and a combination of both theseaccident initiators. 7. External Source Effects and Neutronics in Accelerator-driven Systems
Sammanfattning : Transmutation of plutonium and minor actinides inaccelerator-driven systems (ADS) is being envisaged for thepurpose of reducing the long-term radiotoxic inventory of spentnuclear reactor fuel. Consequently, the physics of sub-criticalsystems are being studied in several different experimentalprograms across the world, one of them being the MUSE(MUltiplication of External Source) program. 8. Source efficiency and high-energy neutronics in accelerator-driven systems
Sammanfattning : Transmutation of plutonium and minor actinides in accelerator-driven systems (ADS) is being envisaged for the purpose of reducing the long-term radiotoxic inventory of spent nuclear reactor fuel. For this reason, the physics of sub-critical systems are being studied in several different experimental programs across the world. LÄS MER
9. Power Reactor Noise Studies and Applications
Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the neutron noise arising in power reactor systems. Generally, it can be divided into two major parts: first, neutron noise diagnostics, or more specifically, novel methods and algorithms to monitor nuclear industrial reactors; and second, contributions to neutron noise theory as applied to power reactor systems. 10. Neutronic and burnup studies of accelerator-driven systems dedicated to nuclear waste transmutation
Sammanfattning : Partitioning and transmutation of plutonium, americium, and curium is inevitable if the radiotoxic inventory of spent nuclear fuel is to be reduced by more than a factor of 100. But, admixing minor actinides into the fuel severely degrades system safety parameters, particularly coolant void reactivity, Doppler effect, and (effective) delayed neutron fractions. LÄS MER
