1. Primary reactions in crystalline salts of tartaric acids, α-amino acids and monochloroacetic acid studied by pulse radiolysis and ESR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Primary reactions in irradiated single crystals of salts of tartaric acids, a-amino acids and monochloroacetic acid have been studied by pulse radiolysis and ESR spectroscopy. The primary products are formed by the loss or capture of an electron and are referred to as oxidation and reduction products. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis of indole and oxindole derivates incorporating pyrrolidino, pyrrolo or imidazolo moieties
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the synthesis of oxindole- and indole-derivatives incorporating pyrrolidins, pyrroles or imidazoles moieties. Pyrrolidino-2-spiro-3'-oxindole derivatives have been prepared in high yielding three-component reactions between isatin, alpha-amino acid derivatives, and suitable dipolarophiles. LÄS MER
3. Development and Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Compounds : Powerful Arylation and Oxidation Reagents
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis describes the efficient synthesis of several hypervalent iodine(III) compounds. Electron-rich diaryliodonium salts have been synthesized in a one-pot procedure, employing mCPBA as the oxidant. Both symmetric and unsymmetric diaryliodonium tosylates can be isolated in high yields. LÄS MER
4. Zinc-enriched neurons in the spinal cord, cerebellum and peripheral sympathetic system
Sammanfattning : Zinc ions are abundant in the nervous system and are involved in many biological functions. Most zinc is tightly bound to macromolecules, whereas a small fraction of zinc exists in synaptic vesicles of the zinc-enriched (ZEN) neurons, and can be visualized using various histochemical techniques, including autometallography (AMG). 5. Modulation of pain by immune factors : a study on interferon-g and its receptor in nociceptive transmission
Sammanfattning : Immune cytokines have been implicated as important neuromodulators, contributing to neuronal plasticity both in the adult and developing nervous system. In addition, they have been assigned a potential role in the generation of pathological pain, which may occur as a severe symptom following disease states in the nervous system. LÄS MER
