1. Studies of genetic and environmental influences on Parkinson’s disease
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's disease. Little is known about the etiology of PD. Although several PD genes are known, these are thought to be involved in only a small proportion of all PD cases. LÄS MER
2. Studies of in vivo prostate amyloidosis and autoimmune responses towards amyloid structures in neurodegeneration
Sammanfattning : By using multidisciplinary analysis of CA inclusions in prostate glands of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, we have revealed that their major components are the amyloid forms of S100A8 and S100A9 proteins associated with numerous inflammatory conditions and types of cancer. We have demonstrated that material closely resembling CA can be produced from S100A8/A9 in vitro and shows the characters of amyloids. LÄS MER
3. Oligodendroglial (dys)function in alpha-synucleinopathies
Sammanfattning : The complexity of a-synucleinopathies, which include multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), is not entirely understood. It is known that pathological accumulation of a-synuclein (a-syn) into proteinaceous aggregates is a cellular hallmark of these diseases. LÄS MER
4. Development of 2-Pyridone-based central fragments : Affecting the aggregation of amyloid proteins
Sammanfattning : There are many applications of small organic compounds, e.g. as drugs or as tools to study biological systems. Once a compound with interesting biological activity has been found, medicinal chemists typically synthesize small libraries of compounds with systematic differences to the initial “hit” compound. 5. Functional and Transcriptional Studies of Human Dopaminergic Neurons
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the most common movement disorder and second most common neurodegenerative disease. The principal hallmark of the pathology is represented by a loss of mesencephalic Dopaminergic neurons (mesDA) that reside in the Substantia Nigra pars compacta (SNpc). LÄS MER
