1. Molecular-dynamics simulations of polymeric surfaces for biomolecular applications
Sammanfattning : In-vitro diagnostics plays a very important role in the present healthcare system. It consists of a large variety of medical devices designed to diagnose a medical condition by measuring a target molecule in a sample, such as blood or urine. LÄS MER
2. The Biological Importance of the Amino Acid Transporter SLC38A10 : Characterization of a Knockout Mouse
Sammanfattning : The biggest group of transporters, the solute carriers (SLCs), has more than 400 members, and about 30% of these are still orphan. In order to decipher their biological function and possible role in disease, there is a need for characterization of these. LÄS MER
3. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 4. Synthesis and properties of substituted Hg-based superconductors
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on studies of substituted Hg-based superconducting copper oxides ((Hg1-xMx)Ba2Can-1CunO2n+2+δ). These compounds are promising objects of investigation, not only from a fundamental point of view but also because of their high values of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and irreversibility field (Hirr). 5. Atomic short-range order, optical and electronic properties of amorphous transition metal oxides : An experimental and theoretical study of amorphous titanium aTiO2 and tungsten aWO3 solid thin-film oxides
Sammanfattning : Amorphous transition metal oxides [aTMOs], have emerged as innovative functional materials for wide-ranging electronic, optical and energy-related applications. However, no systematic and broadly applicable method exists to assess their atomic-scale correlations, and since the optical and electronic processes are local structure-dependent, still there are not well-stablished mechanisms that suitably explain the physical properties of aTMOs.
