1. Antitumor Activities of 2-Methoxyestradiol on Cervical and Endometrial Cancers In Vitro and In Vivo
Sammanfattning : 2-Methoxyestradiol (2-ME), a metabolite of 17β-estradiol, is a potent antitumor and antiangiogenesis agent in vitro and in vivo. This study aimed to investigate the effects of 2-ME on human cervical and endometrial cancers in vitro and in vivo. LÄS MER
2. Design of Water Splitting Devices via Molecular Engineering
Sammanfattning : Converting solar energyto fuels such as hydrogen by the reaction of water splitting is a promising solution for the future sustainable energy systems. The theme of this thesis is to design water splitting devices via molecular engineering; it concerns the studies of both electrochemical-driven and photo-electrochemical driven molecular functional devices for water splitting. 3. Detection of Bio-analytes with Streaming Current : From Fundamental Principles to Novel Applications
Sammanfattning : A biosensor based on streaming current is a new and relatively unexplored subject with significant potential. This thesis attempts to gain a deeper understanding of the governing principles, and then exploit them to further improve its performance as well as develop novel applications. LÄS MER
4. Atomistic Modelling of Materials for Clean Energy Applications : hydrogen generation, hydrogen storage, and Li-ion battery
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a number of clean-energy materials for hydrogen generation, hydrogen storage, and Li-ion battery energy storage applications have been investigated through state-of-the-art density functional theory. As an alternative fuel, hydrogen has been regarded as one of the promising clean energies with the advantage of abundance (generated through water splitting) and pollution-free emission if used in fuel cell systems. 5. NMR studies of DNA structure and counterion behaviour
Sammanfattning : DNA is a polymer of nucleotides, each nucleotide consisting of a negatively charged phosphate group, a ribose sugar unit, and a purine or pyrimidine base. The secondary structure of DNA is commonly a double-helix with Watson-Crick paired bases. Several secondary structures, all with these features, are observed for DNA. LÄS MER
