6. Cellular remodeling in response to nutrient exhaustion : From membrane contact sites to autophagy
Sammanfattning : Adaptation to fluctuating environments is critical for cellular fitness and survival. Cells need to sense changes in their surroundings and quickly adjust cellular homeostasis and metabolism accordingly. LÄS MER
7. Advancing CRISPR technologies to engineer yeast metabolism
Sammanfattning : The advent of genetic engineering tools has initiated an era of manipulating microorganisms for the production of valuable compounds for our society. Precise engineering of these microbes commonly requires introducing genetic modifications such as gene deletion, overexpression, and accurate regulation in order to enhance the production of the compound of interest. 8. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1. 9. Interorganellar connectivity : From protein to lipid homeostasis
Sammanfattning : Interorganellar connectivity is fundamental for the maintenance of organellar and cellular functionality and viability. This is achieved and maintained by a complex network of signaling cascades, vesicle trafficking between organelles as well as by establishment of direct physical contact at membrane contact sites (MCS). 10. Elovl3 and very long chain fatty acids; role in metabolism
Sammanfattning : Fatty acids (FA) are important in several aspects of cellular function, for example as structural molecules and metabolic substrates. The bulk of FA up to 16 carbons (palmitic acid) in length are synthesised by a cytosolic enzyme complex called fatty acid synthase (FAS), while FA can be further elongated into very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) by membrane-bound enzymes in the endoplasmatic reticulum (ER).
