1. Analysis of the Unsteady Flow Field of a Passenger Vehicle
Sammanfattning : Political legislation and consumer requirements for a sustainable society require that vehicle manufacturers focus on reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. Areduction in the overall energy consumption can be directly linked to a decrease of the driving resistance, where the aerodynamic drag significantly contributes at velocities above 70km/h. LÄS MER
2. Passenger kinematics in evasive maneuvers
Sammanfattning : In situations that might lead to a vehicle crash, drivers often perform an evasive maneuver, such as braking or steering, in an attempt to avoid a crash. If a crash was not avoided, the maneuver could influence the injury outcome by altering the occupant’s position. LÄS MER
3. Neural mechanisms for the visual control of spatial orientation and locomotion : electrophysiological and behavioural studies of the supraspinal control of posture and steering in the lamprey central nervous system, with reference to visuo-motor mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Neural mechanisms for the supraspinal control of posture and steering, in particular visuo-motor control and visuo-vestibular interaction in postural control, were investigated, using the lamprey as a model system. Behavioural experiments on intact and chronically lesioned animals, intra- and extracellular recordings in vitro and retrograde staining of neurons with horseradish peroxidase were utilized. LÄS MER
4. Exploiting over-actuation for improved active safety of autonomous electric vehicles
Sammanfattning : The increasing demand for road vehicles has led to challenging road safety and environmental issues. The deployment of active safety systems and autonomous vehicles can contribute to safer roads by assisting or replacing human drivers in the task of maintaining vehicle control in critical conditions: e.g., an obstacle-avoidance manoeuvre. 5. Computational driver behavior models for vehicle safety applications
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate how human driving behaviors can be formally described in mathematical models intended for online personalization of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) or offline virtual safety evaluations. Both longitudinal (braking) and lateral (steering) behaviors in routine driving and emergencies are addressed. LÄS MER
