1. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE
Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. 2. Adrenocorticolysis Induced by 3-MeSO2-DDE : Mechanisms of Action, Kinetics and Species Differences
Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulphonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) induces cell death specifically in the adrenal cortex of mice after a cytochrome P45011B1 (CYP11B1)-catalysed bioactivation. This substance is not only an environmental pollutant, but also a suggested lead compound for an improved chemotherapy of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). LÄS MER
3. Regulation of germline transcription in the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus
Sammanfattning : During an immune response, activated B cells develop into high rate immunoglobulin (Ig) secreting plasma cells. They also switch from production of IgM to IgG, IgA or IgE. Specific isotypes of antibodies have functional and structural features that make them particularly well suited to defend against different types of pathogens. LÄS MER
4. From the Electronic Structure of Point Defects to Functional Properties of Metals and Ceramics
Sammanfattning : Point defects are an inherent part of crystalline materials and they influence important physical and chemical properties, such as diffusion, hardness, catalytic activity and phase stability. Increased understanding of point defects enables us to tailor the defect-related properties to the application at hand. LÄS MER
5. Basal lamina genes affected in leiomyomatosis and congenital muscular dystrophy : structure and mutation analyses of the collagen COL4A6 and laminin LAMA2 genes
Sammanfattning : Basal laminae (basement membranes) are flexible thin sheets of specialized extracellular matrix separating organ cells from the underlying or surrounding connective tissues. They are found beneath epithelial and endothelial cells amd surrounding different cells, such as muscle fibers and nerves. LÄS MER
