  1. 1. Regulation of morphogen signalling during neural patterning in the Xenopus embryo

    Författare :Hooi Min Tan Grahn; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Suppressor-of-fused; Gli; β-Catenin; Neural; Xenopus; FGF; Signalling; HtrA1; RDH10; Retinol dehydrogenase; Retinoic acid; Spemann s organizer; Induction; Gradient;

    Sammanfattning : Morphogens such as Hedghog, Wnt, FGF, and retinoic acid are important signals whose concentrations need to be tightly regulated in the vertebrate embryo to ensure body axis development and formation of the central nervous system. We first show that the intracellular cytoplasmic protein XSufu acts as a dual regulator of Hedgehog (Hh) and Wnt signals during neural induction and patterning in the Xenopus embryo. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Xenopus tropicalis model for developmental endocrine and reproductive toxicity : Histological and molecular endpoints for disrupted spermatogenesis

    Författare :Sofie Svanholm; Cecilia Berg; Oskar Karlsson; Valérie Langlois; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Reproductive toxicology; Developmental toxicology; Spermatogenesis; Transgenerational; Xenopus tropicalis; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are linked to adverse effects in both humans and wildlife. There are however, large knowledge gaps regarding cause-effect and dose-response relationships between the interference with endocrine pathways and adverse effects in the organism, especially at puberty and in subsequent generations. 3. 3. Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity of Progestagens in the Xenopus (Silurana) tropicalis Test System

    Författare :Moa Säfholm; Cecilia Berg; Ingvar Brandt; Jan Olsson; Louis Guillette; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Xenopus tropicalis; sex organ differentiation; oogenesis; fertility; ovary; oviduct; progestagens; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Progestagenic compounds are emerging contaminants found in surface and ground water around the world. Information on the effects and potency of progestagens is needed in order to understand the environmental risks posed by these compounds. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ontogenetic Characterization of Müllerian Duct Development and Expression of anti-Müllerian hormone and Other Genes : New Endpoints in the Frog Xenopus tropicalis Test System

    Författare :Erika Jansson; Cecilia Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The amphibian model-species Xenopus tropicalis is used in reproductive toxicology studies. Lifecycle studies are requested but they are time consuming and susceptible to several of the risks attributed to long-term studies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endocrine Disruption in Amphibians : Developmental Effects of Ethynylestradiol and Clotrimazole on the Reproductive System

    Författare :Irina Gyllenhammar; Cecilia Berg; Ingvar Brandt; Lena Holm; Joakim Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Test system; Xenopus tropicalis; Rana temporaria; sex ratio; sex differentiation; fertility; aromatase; ovary; testis; oviduct; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amphibian populations are declining world-wide and one of the suggested reasons is environmental pollutants. Studies of long-term effects on the reproductive system in frogs following larval exposure to environmental pollutants are scarce. It is therefore important to develop methods to study developmental reproductive toxicity in amphibians. LÄS MER
