1. Reactivity of late transition metal complexes towards CO2 and other electrophiles
Sammanfattning : In times when dwindling energy resources is a major long-term problem for sustaining modern infrastructure and technologies, we need to focus on more enduring solutions. A key contribution to this achievement is catalysis. LÄS MER
2. Cytokines and immune balance in preeclampsia : a survey of some immunological variables and methods in the study of preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is one of the most feared pregnancy complications, with a risk of maternal and fetal death and with no ideal therapy readily available. The cause of this strictly pregnancyrelated disease is still unknown and is therefore a great challenge to all researchers in the field of pregnancy-related pathophysiology. LÄS MER
3. Materials for advanced energy technology from quantum-mechanical modeling
Sammanfattning : The present thesis addresses promising material solutions for fusion reactors from a theoretical point of view. We focus on two specific systems: W-based alloys used as plasma-facing materials and reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM, Ferich) steels used as structural materials of breeding-blanket. 4. Characterising Halogen Bonding in a Cooperative Model System
Sammanfattning : Non-covalent interactions are the main driving factor for secondary structure formation of biomacromolecules and are of enormous importance for the direction of molecular recognition events, for example those of importance for drug discovery. Profound understanding of these interactions is of vital importance to achieve high affinity and selectivity of a ligand to a chosen target. LÄS MER
5. Molecular studies of the humoral immune response in Hyalophora cecropia : structure, function and transcriptional regulation of three classes of immunoresponsive genes
Sammanfattning : Insects have an efficient humoral immune system, an important part of which is constituted by the antibacterial proteins, produced upon bacterial infection or wounding. In this thesis, the molecular mechanism of this immune response was investigated in the giant silkmoth Hyalophora cecropia, where a set of bacteriainducible proteins (immune proteins) had previously been characterized.
