  1. 1. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Författare :Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Sammanfattning : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 2. 2. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Författare :Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 3. 3. Exploring expandable microspheres as a novel pore former in gel-cast macroporous alumina

    Författare :Linnéa Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gel casting; macroporosity; Al2O3; near-net shape; expandable microspheres; layer-by-layer adsorption; polyelectrolyte; multilayer; colloids; X-ray micro-computed tomography; Lab CT; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Expandable microspheres have been explored as sacrificial templates for the production of macroporous ceramics. Concentrated alumina powder suspensions that contain expandable microspheres have been consolidated by gel-casting. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molar Incisor Hypomineralization

    Författare :Tobias G Fagrell; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Teeth; Molar Insicor Hypomineralisation; hypomineralisation; Enamel; Etiology; ozone; Scanning electron microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Overall aim: The general objective of this thesis was to enhance the understanding of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) in areas of the histological, chemical and mechanical properties of the hypomineralized enamel, objective and subjective clinical symptoms in relation to bacteria findings. Further, to estimate a time for onset of the disturbance and investigate possible etiological factors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure and Mechanical Behaviour of Wood-Fibre Composites

    Författare :Thomas Joffre; E. Kristofer Gamstedt; Stéphane Avril; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Wood fibres have several advantages compared to man-made synthetic fibres: they have high specific stiffness, are renewable, relatively inexpensive, available in industrial quantities and biodegradable. However, to increase and diversify their utilisation, it is necessary to increase the understanding on what controls their mechanical properties. LÄS MER
