16. Nanolatexes: a versatile toolbox for cellulose modification
Sammanfattning : Cellulosic materials are widely used in our everyday lives, ranging from paperand packaging to biomedical applications. However, in most applications, cellulose must coexist with hydrophobic polymers which can be challenging due to its hydrophilic character. This has encouraged the exploration of chemical and physical modifications of cellulose. LÄS MER
17. Surface modification of cellulose materials : from wood pulps to artificial blood vessels
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the improvement of two radically different cellulose materials, paper and artificial blood vessels, constructed from two diverse cellulose sources, wood pulp and Acetobacter xylinum. The improvement of both materials was possible due to the natural affinity of the hemicellulose xyloglucan for cellulose. LÄS MER
18. Chemical and physical incorporation of bio-molecules into wood materials for energy storage
Sammanfattning : The environmental impact of fossil-based materials in the building industry and significant energy consumption in residential buildings have urged new research areas in using bio-based, renewable and sustainable materials for production of energy smart bio-based envelopes for building applications. This can be achieved by incorporation of bio-based phase change materials (BPCMs) in wood materials for energy storage in residential buildings. LÄS MER
19. Surface modification approaches of cellulose nanofibrils and their effect on dispersibility
Sammanfattning : In the strive to find and develop sustainable bio-based materials an increased interest for nanocellulosic materials as attractive alternatives has arisen during the past decades. This can be attributed to their abundant renewability, remarkable inherent mechanical properties and their capability to be chemically modified. LÄS MER
20. Light propagation in an anisotropically scattering medium
Sammanfattning : Scattering is the main phenomenon of light-matter interaction. In this thesis, we consider one specific case of light propagation in a material whose structure causes anisotropic optical scattering - transparent wood. LÄS MER
