1. Steam Explosion of Wood
Sammanfattning : The rising price of petroleum and environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions has increased interest in alternative renewable resources. Biomass can be considered as an excellent alternative raw material. A biorefinery uses biomass and produces fuel, energy and value-added chemicals. LÄS MER
2. Effect of Wood Constituents Oxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids
Sammanfattning : This work presents the mechanisms of free radicals in a model system between fatty acids oxidation process and wood components. The aim is to create a better understanding of new environmentally friendly materials for exterior wood protection. LÄS MER
3. Recalcitrance of wood to biochemical conversion : feedstock properties, pretreatment, saccharification, and fermentability
Sammanfattning : Lignocellulose is an inexpensive and abundant renewable resource that can be used to produce advanced biofuels, green chemicals, and other bio-based products. Pretreatment and efficient enzymatic saccharification are essential features of bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass. LÄS MER
4. Chromatographic separation of wood constituents
Sammanfattning : In a modern kraft pulp mill only about 45 % of the incoming wood is present in the pulp and it is mainly composed of cellulose. The remainder of the wood, which is dissolved in order to liberate the cellulose fibres, e.g., hemicellulose and lignin, ends up in the mill´s recovery boiler to recover the latent energy. LÄS MER
5. Chromatographic separation of wood constituents
Sammanfattning : Hot water extracted Norway spruce was fractionated by cross flow filtration followed by two stages of hydrophobic adsorption with increasing hydrophobic selectivity. Three fractions were recovered and characterized by Klason and sugar content and by size exclusion measurements of enzymatically hydrolyzed samples, revealing species covalently bound to carbohydrates.
