11. Additive-Driven Improvements in Interfacial Properties and Processing of TMP-Polymer Composites
Sammanfattning : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 12. Nonlinear modeling of reinforced dowel joints in timber structures : a combined experimental-numerical study
Sammanfattning : Steel dowels are indispensable elements for the design of joints in modern timber structures. Dowels are broadly used because of their flexibility in design and easy assembling on-site, as well as due to their advantageous mechanical behavior. LÄS MER
13. Integrated Cellulosic Wood Aerogel Structures
Sammanfattning : Highly porous aerogels based on renewable materials that possess structural functionality are appealing for sustainable energy regulation and harvesting. Achieving structural anisotropy provides advantageous directional diffusion and mechanical strength, however, introduces great engineering challenges, such as complex, costly, and time-consuming processing. 14. Cellulosic Thermal Insulation with Improved Water Resistance and Fire Retardancy
Sammanfattning : Sweden is one of the largest countries by area in Europe, and almost 70% of it is covered by forest. These abundant forest resources benefit the Swedish bioeconomy, but the pulp and paper industry is facing the challenge of a decrease in the demand for printing paper due to a significant shift to electronic media; therefore, it is a priority to use pulp to produce alternative value-added products, such as thermal insulating materials in buildings. 15. High Clay Content Cellulose Nanocomposites for Mechanical Performance and Fire Retardancy
Sammanfattning : Materials based on wood can offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and composites, and show interesting mechanical properties. However, the issue of their flammability is generally unresolved. In this thesis, eco-friendly, fire retardant clay-cellulose nanofibril materials are investigated. LÄS MER
