1. The Female Reader at the Round Table : Religion and Women in Three Contemporary Arthurian Texts
Sammanfattning : Stretching back at least a thousand years, Arthurian literature constitutes a vigorous and varied genre that attracts scholarly attention. In a close reading of three modern Arthurian texts, Mary Stewart’s Merlin trilogy, The Crystal Cave (1970), The Hollow Hills (1973), The Last Enchantment (1979), Marion Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon (1982), and Stephen Lawhead’s Pendragon Cycle, Taliesin (1987), Merlin (1988), Arthur (1989), Pendragon (1994), and Grail (1997), this study focuses on the intersection between two of the genre’s motifs: religion and gender. 2. Envisioning American women : The roads to communal identity in novels by women of color
Sammanfattning : This study explores the representation of female identity formation in ten novels, published between the late 1960s and the late 1980s, by American women of color Paula Gunn Allen, Sandra Cisneros, Maxine Hong Kingston, Paule Marshall, Louise Meriwether, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and Sarah Wright. The motivation for such a selection is based on the novels' shared formal and thematic characteristics, as well as on political affinities in the emphasis on the forces marginalizing their non-white female protagonists. 3. Naming in/security - constructing identity: 'Mayan-women' in Guatemala in the eve of 'peace'
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how politically active Mayan women in 1995, at the close of the armed conflict in Guatemala, speak about their in/security as Mayan, women, and poor. The body of this work is based on partial life-history interviews conducted with 18 leaders of different organizations within the popular/Mayan movement. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The aim of the study is to describe, analyse and understand the meanings that can be extracted from the fictive stories and drawings produced by a group 13-14 year old girls’ and dealing with their future family life. The stories and drawings are ‘read’ as the girls’ reflections and fantasies in dialogue with their culture about different ways of being and living as grown women. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The house looms large in American literature and plays a significant part in American society and history. This study uses Mikhail Bakhtin's concept of the chronotope to examine the house in Harriet Jacobs's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (1861), Elizabeth Stoddard's The Morgesons (1862), Octavia Butler's Kindred (1979), and Marilynne Robinson's Housekeeping (1980).
