  1. 11. Wnt signaling in early brain development and disease

    Författare :Panagiotis Papachristou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Wnt/Planar Cell Polarity (PCP) signaling is involved in many cellular processes throughout the development of the embryo. These include control of proliferation, differentiation, migration and cell fate decisions. Deregulation of Wnt/PCP signaling can lead to many developmental abnormalities and cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Wnt/beta-catenin signaling in midbrain dopaminergic neurons

    Författare :Nina Rawal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dopamine; neuron; development; beta-catenin; Writ; Parkin; Parkinson s disease;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is caused by a progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra. However, the mechanisms underlying the degeneration remain elusive and there is no cure for P1) at present. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Wnt5a signaling in Malignant Melanoma

    Författare :Elin Ekström; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The Wnt signaling pathway is highly conserved and crucial during embryonic development. Aberrant Wnt signaling is important in several different disease processes. One such disease process is the development and progression of cancer. Malignant melanoma is a highly aggressive tumor type, in which Wnt signaling is essential. LÄS MER

  4. 14. WNT signaling in microglia : WNTs as novel regulators of microglia

    Författare :Carina Halleskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Microglia, the immunocompetent cells of the central nervous system (CNS) and the brain’s own macrophages are the most motile cells in the CNS and those with highest plasticity, as they rapidly move their projections to actively screen their environment for any type of injury. Upon cell damage or infection, microglia respond quickly: they proliferate, change morphology from ramified to amoeboid state to migrate or invade towards the injury, secrete many types of cytokines and chemokines to communicate with other inflammatory cells, and phagocytose cell debris. 5. 15. Genetic Variations in Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease: A Focus on Gene-Lifestyle Interactions and Mendelian Randomization

    Författare :George Hindy; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; cardiovascular disease; coronary heart disease; metabolic syndrome; genetics; gene-lifestyle interactions; diet; TCF7L2; WNT signaling; chromosome 9p21; Mendelian randomization;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are highly prevalent complex diseases that result from lifestyle and genetic factors. Gene-lifestyle interactions are also believed to contribute to the etiology of these diseases. LÄS MER
