6. Tailoring Conducting Polymer Interface for Sensing and Biosensing
Sammanfattning : The routine measurement of significant physiological and biochemical parameters has become increasingly important for health monitoring especially in the cases of elderly people, infants, patients with chronic diseases, athletes and soldiers etc. Monitoring is used to assess both physical fitness level and for disease diagnosis and treatment. 7. Extracellular factors for preservation and delivery of stromal cells
Sammanfattning : Modulating the immune response after a myocardial infarction seems like an appropriate strategy for reducing myocardial fibrosis. Mesenchymal Stromal Cells are immunomodulatory and have thus gained interest, but have so far not achieved the desired clinical outcomes. LÄS MER
8. Seeing the invisible: Evolution of wing interference patterns in Hymenoptera, and their application in taxonomy
Sammanfattning : The remarkably thin transparent wing membranes in tiny wasps may appear to have a simple structural design, but hide a largely unexplored complex of micro-morphological features that serve aerodynamics and may also function in visual signaling. I found that when such small transparent wings are viewed against a dark background they display vivid structural color patterns due to thin film interference, and named them Wing Interference Patterns (WIPs). 9. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER
10. Adaptive Mesh Refinement and Simulations of Unsteady Delta-Wing Aerodynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)simulations of the flow around delta wings at high angles ofattack. These triangular wings, mainly used in militaryaircraft designs, experience the formation of two vortices ontheir lee-side at large angles of attack. LÄS MER
