  1. 6. Implementation and Analysis of Air-Sea Exchange Processes in Atmosphere and Ocean Modelling

    Författare :Björn Carlsson; Anna Rutgersson; Ann-Sofi Smedman; Öyvind Saetra; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sensible heat flux; Latent heat flux; Momentum flux; Wind stress; Marine boundary layer; Air–Sea interaction; Swell; Climate model; Ocean model; Roughness parameter; Drag coefficient; Wave breaking; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : To understand and to predict the weather and climate, numerical models are important tools and it is crucial that the controlling processes are described correctly. Since 70% of the global surface is covered with water the description how the ocean and atmosphere communicates has a considerable impact. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Efficient Large-eddy Simulation for Wind Energy Applications

    Författare :Henrik Asmuth; Stefan Ivanell; Hugo Olivares-Espinosa; Karl Nilsson; Richard Stevens; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Modelling the interaction of wind turbines with the ambient flow is essential for almost all technical aspects of wind energy exploitation. Large-eddy simulation (LES) is the most detailed approach feasible to model this complex interaction of wind turbines with the atmospheric boundary layer and the wakes of upstream turbines. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Modelling of stably-stratified, convective and transitional atmospheric boundary layers using the explicit algebraic Reynolds-stress model

    Författare :Velibor Zeli; Gert Brethouwer; Arne V. Johansson; Stefan Wallin; Bert Holtslag; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric turbulence; convective atmosphere; Reynolds-stress model; stably-stratified atmosphere; transitional atmosphere; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is in continuous turbulent motion. The heating and cooling of the Earth’s surface drives mechanic and thermodynamic processes in the ABL through enhancing and damping of atmospheric turbulence. The surface forcing has a profound effect on the diurnal cycle of temperature,wind and related variables in the ABL. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The wind of change : individuals change when technology change

    Författare :Kent Fridell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The production of digital images has been well-known within radiology for many years through its use of modalities such as computer tomography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance tomography. During the latter part of the 1980´s a new technology, Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) was introduced making it possible to manage X-ray pictures in their original, digital form. 5. 10. Atmosphere-ocean Interactions in Swell Dominated Wave Fields

    Författare :Alvaro Semedo; Anna Rutgersson; Oyvind Saetra; Piero Lionello; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Wind sea; Swell; Swell propagation; MABL; Air-sea interaction; Momentum flux; Wave climate; Coupling; Wave age; Empirical Orthogonal functions; Wave model; Climate model; WAM; RCA; wave heights; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean wind waves represent the atmosphere-ocean boundary, playing a central role in the air-sea exchanging processes. Heat, mass and momentum are transferred across this boundary, with waves mediating the exchange of principally the momentum between the winds and the ocean surface. During the generation process waves are called wind sea. LÄS MER
