Sammanfattning : In early postcolonial Burma, a number of so-called royal esoteric associations with a millenarian and eschatological orientation, and founded by persons believed to be the world emperor, emerged in response to political turmoil, nation-building projects, modernization, and after-effects of colonialism. 3. The Barabudur : A Synopsis of Buddhism
Sammanfattning : The aim of this PhD-dissertation is – on the one hand – to present in a critical and comprehensive manner an update of recent findings among Western scholars regarding the Barabudur monument and its illustrations of various Buddhist traditions, and – on the other hand – to throw some light on some of the outstanding issues regarding this monument. Based on approximately one year of fieldwork in the former British Hill station, it also deals with the politics of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and some of its political and social implications for the exiled Tibetan youth living in Dharamsala, India.
