21. Immigration, Social Cohesion, and the Welfare State : Studies on Ethnic Diversity in Germany and Sweden
Sammanfattning : Can social cohesion and solidarity persist in the face of large-scale migration? One particularly contentious hypothesis states that native majorities will be unwilling to support the provision of government-funded welfare to those whom they do not consider to be part of their own sociocultural ingroup, especially when sociocultural or ethnic otherness and socioeconomic disadvantage overlap. Consequently, majorities’ willingness to accept disadvantaged immigrant groups as legitimate and trusted members of the welfare community is central to the social cohesion of societies diversifying through migration. 22. Housing Careers in a Changing Welfare State
Sammanfattning : The departure point of this thesis was changes to the welfare state. These changes began during the recession in the 1970s and were emphasised in the beginning of the 1990s. The housing market was particularly affected, as the state almost completely withdrew its engagement. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The theoretical point of departure in this dissertation proposes that the liberal welfare state includes a fundamental logic of integration, viewing the attainment of social equality between different categories in society as a main condition for social integration. But how can this logic of integration be applied to a multicultural society? Is trying to achieve equal access to certain socio-economic standards sufficient, or does cultural diversity call for other measures in order to fulfill the aim of equality and integration?In this study it is argued that the liberal welfare state in a multicultural society is confronted with three tensions. 25. Out and about in the welfare state : the right to transport in everyday life for people with disabilities in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian law
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to identify how a social citizenship for people with disabilities is shaped bythe normative structures in the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian law governing their right to transportin everyday life. The thesis deals with three types of transport provided by the public to private individuals: transport services, car allowances, and cash benefits for reimbursing transport costs forpeople with disabilities.
