1. Lubrication mechanism of hydrocarbon-mimicking ionic liquids
Sammanfattning : Lubrication is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of machine elements such as gears, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies (MMA). In space applications, tribological properties of lubricants are quickly growing more important. LÄS MER
2. Some Aspects of Wear and Structural Dynamics
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is dynamics and wear of structures. In the six appended papers different aspects of wear and dynamics of a model system are studied. The considered system consists of a long slender rod with unilateral supports, subject to harmonic and stochastic excitation. LÄS MER
3. On wear transitions in the wheel-rail contact
Sammanfattning : Wear transitions in the wheel–rail contact are of increasing interest since the general trend in railway traffic is toward increased velocities and axle loads. Curving increases the risk of flanging, causing the contact to change from an almost pure rolling wheel tread–rail head contact to more of a sliding wheel flange–rail gauge contact on the high rail in curves. 4. Influence of rail, wheel and track geometries on wheel and rail degradation
Sammanfattning : For more efficient railway maintenance there is a need to increase the understanding of the influence of operational conditions on wheel and rail degradation. To this end, the chosen primary investigation strategy is to employ dynamic multibody simulations, where operational conditions are altered, to estimate the influence on material deterioration. 5. Development of New Multiscale Polymer Composites for Water Lubricated Tribological Contacts
Sammanfattning : Moving towards a Green Economy, there is a growing demand to use environmentally friendly tribological systems that has resulted in industries turning towards new mate-rials and water-based lubrication to satisfy their needs. Considering the low viscosity of water, tribological contacts lubricated with it are likely to operate in boundary/mixed lubrication regime for relatively long periods. LÄS MER
