1. Rectal washout in rectal cancer surgery
Sammanfattning : BackgroundRectal washout (RW) is performed to eliminate intraluminal cancer cells and thereby reducing the risk of local recurrence (LR). The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the importance of RW in rectal cancer surgery.MethodPaper I: Survey of the current practice of RW among Swedish colorectal units. LÄS MER
2. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations
Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. LÄS MER
3. Polybrominated diphenylethers in the environment - Local and long range transport
Sammanfattning : I have studied the sources, long range transport, and rates of flow of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), from the technosphere to the Baltic ecosystems. PBDEs are mainly used in polymers, which are applied in electrical equipment to prevent overheating or flashover and are produced in large quantities. LÄS MER
4. Enhanced Methane and Hydrogen production in Reverse Membrane Bioreactors via Syngas Fermentation
Sammanfattning : of waste treatment processes, such as the anaerobic digestion. This biochemical process converts organic substrates into biogas, with anaerobic microorganisms. However, some types of substrates have low bio-degradability due to its recalcitrance or the presence of inhibitors. LÄS MER
5. Ethyl glucuronide : a new biochemical marker for acute alcohol intake : studies on possible causes for false-negative or false-positive results
Sammanfattning : In recent years, there has been a growing interest in various biochemical markers for detecting acute and chronic alcohol consumption. Biochemical markers for acute and chronic drinking play important roles in detecting alcohol use, abuse and dependence in hospital settings, work place settings, traffic medicine and in forensic toxicology examinations.
