  1. 16. Metal release from stainless steels and the pure metals in different media

    Författare :Gunilla Herting; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Lena Wegrelius; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; stainless steel; iron; chromium; nickel; metal release; artificial rain; synthetic body fluid; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This study has been triggered by the fact that stainless steel is being increasingly used in new applications, where possible environmental effects may be a matter of concern. When stainless steel is exposed to a given environment, a key issue is the release of small amounts of the main alloying elements iron, chromium, nickel and molybdenum. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Wood hydrolysate Barriers

    Författare :Anas Ibn Yaich; Ulrica Edlund; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Margaretha. Söderqvist-Lindblad; Inger Odnevall-Wallinder; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood hydrolysate; xylan; hemicellulose; layered silicates; oxygen barrier; packaging; film; coaing; birch.;

    Sammanfattning : Wood hemicellulose is an abundant but fairly unexploited renewable feedstock. Recent studies have shown that hemicelluloses have a large potential for use in the food packaging industry as a sustainable alternative to the conventional oxygen-barrier materials used today. 3. 18. Metal Release and Corrosion of Stainless Steel in Simulated Food Contact

    Författare :Neda Mazinanian; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Ingrid Milosev; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge on metal release behaviour of stainless steels used in food processing applications and cooking utensils is essential within the framework of human health risk assessments. Recently, a new European test guideline (the CoE protocol) has been implemented to ensure safety of metals and alloys in food contact, such as stainless steels. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Transformation/dissolution characteristics of cobalt and welding fume nanoparticles in physiological and environmental media: surface interactions and trophic transfer

    Författare :Nanxuan Mei; Eva Blomberg; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Jonas Hedberg; Iseult Lynch; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Nanoparticles (NPs) and nanomaterials (NMs) are present everywhere in the environment. They can form both as an act of nature and during human activities. Various kinds of NPs and NMs are engineered for different applications in the ongoing development of nanoscience and technology. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER
