  1. 21. Effects of Cell Wall Structure on Tensile Properties of Hardwood : Effect of down-regulation of lignin on mechanical performance of transgenic hybrid aspen. Effect of chemical degradation on mechanical performance of archaeological oak from the Vasa ship

    Författare :Ingela Bjurhager; Lars Berglund; Ulrike Wegst; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :tensile strength; transgenic hybrid aspen; lignin down-regulation; the Vasa ship; chemical degradation; longitudinell draghållfasthet; transgen hybridasp; ligninnedreglering; Vasaskeppet; kemisk nedbrytning; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Wood is a complex material and the mechanical properties are influencedby a number of structural parameters. The objective of this study has been toinvestigate the relationship between the structure and the mechanical propertiesof hardwood. Two levels were of special interest, viz. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Experimental studies of tearing mode and resistive wall mode dynamics in the reversed field pinch configuration

    Författare :Jenny-Ann Malmberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear fusion; reversed field pinch; resistive wall instabilities; wall locked modes; tearing modes; resistive shell modes; field errors; Extrap T2; Extrap T2R; TPE-RX;

    Sammanfattning : It is relatively straightforward to establish equilibrium inmagnetically confined plasmas, but the plasma is frequentlysucceptible to a variety of instabilities that are driven bythe free energy in the magnetic field or in the pressuregradient. These unstable modes exhibit effects that affect theparticle, momentum and heat confinement properties of theconfiguration. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Turbulence Modelling of Flows Related to Wall-Cooling Applications

    Författare :Stefan Jansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-Reynolds number models; second-order-moment closures; turbulent heat transfer; two-equation models; film-cooling; near-wall models; turbulence modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering flows are generally characterised by complex strain field and turbulence structure arising from a combination of shear, curvature, separation and recirculation etc. Under such flow conditions, transport by turbulent velocity fluctuations can make a significant contribution to the transport of momentum, heat and mass. 4. 24. Mechanosensing in the vascular wall - the role of cellular microdomains in vascular remodeling

    Författare :Sebastian Albinsson; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; cytochemistry; histochemistry; wall stress; shear stress; hypertension; Histology; differentiation; growth; caveolin; smooth muscle; actin; Fysiologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular wall has a remarkable capacity to adapt to mechanical forces exerted by the intraluminal blood pressure and flow. This includes rapid change in contractile tone as well as chronic alteration of vessel structure if the stimulus persists. Stretch of the intact blood vessel wall promotes growth and contractile differentiation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Fundamental studies of non-premixed combustion in turbulent wall jets using direct numerical simulation

    Författare :Zeinab Pouransari; V. Arne Johansson; Christer Fureby; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulence; non-premixed combustion; global reaction; direct numerical simulation; wall-jet; heat release; mixing scales; heat transfer; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the fundamental aspects of turbulent mixingand non-premixed combustion in wall-jet flows. Direct numerical simulations(DNS) of compressible turbulent flows are performed in a wall-jet configura-tion, which has a close resemblance to many industrial combustion applica-tions. LÄS MER
