  1. 1. Taming the Griffin : Membrane interactions of peripheral and monotopic glycosyltransferases and dynamics of bacterial and plant lipids in bicelles

    Författare :Jobst Liebau; Lena Mäler; Charles Sanders; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane; bicelle; lipid; detergent; lipopolysaccharide; glycosyltransferase; WaaG; fluorescence; circular dichroism; NMR; paramagnetic relaxation enhancement; model-free approach; dynamics; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes form a protective barrier around cells and cellular compartments. A broad range of biochemical processes occur in or at membranes demonstrating that they are not only of structural but also of functional importance. One important class of membrane proteins are membrane-associated glycosyltransferases. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Structure and lipid interactions of membrane-associated glycosyltransferases : Cationic patches and anionic lipids regulate biomembrane binding of both GT-A and GT-B enzymes

    Författare :Scarlett Szpryngiel; Lena Mäler; Marcelo Guerins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glycosyltransferase; monotopic membrane proteins; galactolipids; NMR; chitin synthase; DGD2; LPS; WaaG; MIT domain; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns work on structure and membrane interactions of enzymes involved in lipid synthesis, biomembrane and cell wall regulation and cell defense processes. These proteins, known as glycosyltransferases (GTs), are involved in the transfer of sugar moieties from nucleotide sugars to lipids or chitin polymers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Membrane interactions of glycosyltransferases

    Författare :Jobst Liebau; Lena Mäler; Christofer Lendel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid; bicelle; glycosyltransferase; NMR; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Many important biological processes occur near or in membranes. The role of membranes is not merely confined to compartmentalization, they also form the matrix for membrane associated proteins and are of functional importance. Membrane associated proteins on the other hand require specific membrane properties for proper function. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structure, dynamics and interactions of biomolecules : Investigations by NMR spectroscopy and computational methods

    Författare :Jens Landström; Göran Widmalm; Pedro Nieto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR spectroscopy; MD simulation; carbohydrate synthesis; protein-ligand interaction; glycosyltransferase; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the structure, dynamics and interactions of proteins and carbohydrates are investigated using mainly NMR spectroscopy and computer simulations. Oligosaccharides representing a Salmonella O-antigen have been synthesized and their dynamic behavior and interaction with the bacteriophage P22 tail-spike protein have been studied by NMR spectroscopy, MD and docking simulations. 5. 5. Antibiotic uptake in Gram-negative bacteria

    Författare :Claudio Muheim; Daniel Daley; Jean-Marie Pagès; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gram-negative bacteria; Antibiotic uptake; Outer membrane; Lipopolysaccharide; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a serious threat to public health. Of particular concern are Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. LÄS MER
