  1. 1. Graphene: Applications in Surface Science Studies

    Författare :Virginia Boix; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Surface Science; EBID; Catalysis; undercover catalysis; XPS; APXPS; STM;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses how graphene can be a valuable asset for surface science studies. Using a combination of X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, and low-energy electron diffraction, we take advantage of graphene’s sensitivity to changes in its chemical environment to obtain an atomic scale understanding of different reactions occurring above and below the film. 2. 2. The Value of Preoperative MRI in Breast Cancer Treatment

    Författare :Virginia Gonzalez; Staffan Eriksson; Sophia Zackrissson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :preoperative breast MRI; breast cancer; breast-conserving surgery; Surgery; Kirurgi; Oncology; Onkologi; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains controversial as an image adjunct in preoperative settings in terms of short-term benefits and there are no survival data from randomized studies. This prospective, randomized, multicentre study included 440 patients (age ≤ 56 y) with breast cancer from three large-volume Swedish breast clinics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The elephant in the cell : A multifaceted undertaking to uncover the molecular principles behind lymphatic endothelial cell identity

    Författare :Virginia Panara; Katarzyna Koltowska; Taija Mäkinen; Marcel den Hoed; Sarah de Val; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphatic endothelium; Development; Epigenetic; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Sammanfattning : The lymphatic vascular network is composed of a series of blind ended vessels, and is involved in physiological functions such as fluid homeostasis, lipid metabolism and immune trafficking. Despite lymphatic endothelial cells being derived from multiple organs, they share common molecular denominators, including the expression of the transcription factor Prox1. 4. 4. Safety and efficacy of oral care for intubated neuroscience intensive care unit patients

    Författare :Virginia Prendergast; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral hygiene; Tooth Brushing; RCT; Nursing Care; Critical Care;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this research was to investigate the safety of oral care in terms of intracranial dynamics and changes in oral health during intubation and 48 hours after extubation among neuroscience intensive care unit (NICU) patients. Additional aims included comparison of a comprehensive oral care protocol (i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. From single-molecule sensing to extracellular vesicles in glioma cells under stress

    Författare :Virginia Claudio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proteome; single molecule sensing; nanoplasmonics; surface plasmon resonance; exosomes; glioblastoma; extracellular vesicles; cellular stress; lipid composition;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the work I conducted in two different areas, namely biomolecular sensing and quantitative cell biology. The work in the former area was focused on the optimization of plasmonic metamaterials for sensing applications, and in the latter on the characterization of extracellular vesicles released by glioblastoma cells under stress conditions.
