  1. 1. Imbalance and fractures in the elderly Effects of decreased vibration sensation and vestibular asymmetry

    Författare :Ella Kolbrun Kristinsdottir; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Postural Control; Elderly; Vibration sensation; Vestibular asymmetry; Falls; Fractures.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; revalidation; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Control of the upright stance and locomotion is a complicated process of muscular activity. The muscular activity is dependant on afferent information from the different sensory organs and interpretation in the central nervous system. Age-related degenerative changes exist in all the domains concerned with control of posture. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vestibular rehabilitation therapy in dizziness and disequilibrium

    Författare :Ann-Sofi Kammerlind; Krister Brantberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :vestibular; dizziness; disequilibrium; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Dizziness and disequilibrium can be caused by several dysfunctions within the balance system, and are common symptoms especially in higher ages. The general aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of vestibular rehabilitation therapy in patients with dizziness and disequilibrium, and to examine the influence of age, vestibular function and psychological aspects on recovery. 3. 3. Vestibular control of body orientation in lamprey

    Författare :Elena Pavlova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Postural control; orientation; vision; vestibular system; visuo-vestibular interaction; vestibular compensation; locomotion; supraspinal control; lamprey;

    Sammanfattning : Maintenance of body orientation (postural control) is a vital motor function of the brain. The general goal of this project was to understand the organization and operation of neuronal networks responsible for postural control. The lamprey (a lower vertebrate) was used as a model animal. 4. 4. Neuronal mechanisms of feedback postural control

    Författare :Li-Ju Hsu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :postural control; equilibrium; body configuration; reticulospinal neurons; stretch receptor neurons; galvanic vestibular stimulation; artificial feedback; locomotion; spinalization; rabbit; lamprey;

    Sammanfattning : Different species maintain a basic body posture due to the activity of the postural control system. An efficient control of the body orientation, as well as the body configuration, is important for standing and during locomotion. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neural mechanisms for the visual control of spatial orientation and locomotion : electrophysiological and behavioural studies of the supraspinal control of posture and steering in the lamprey central nervous system, with reference to visuo-motor mechanisms

    Författare :Fredrik Ullén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neural mechanisms for the supraspinal control of posture and steering, in particular visuo-motor control and visuo-vestibular interaction in postural control, were investigated, using the lamprey as a model system. Behavioural experiments on intact and chronically lesioned animals, intra- and extracellular recordings in vitro and retrograde staining of neurons with horseradish peroxidase were utilized. LÄS MER
