  1. 1. Variations in Functional Lateralization

    Författare :Peter E Wendt; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; posterior association cortex; prefrontal; DLPFC; regional cerebral blood flow; normal subjects; lateralization; asymmetry; performance; creativity; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; cognitive; ethanol; activation; visual stimulation; functional; verbal; divergent; spatial; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to study asymmetric activation of the neocortex in normal subjects, using the rCBF technique and different cognitive tasks. The aim was also to study individual and group variations of asymmetric activation, as well as factors pertaining to these variations. The thesis is based on four investigations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The effect of modality on social presence, presence and performance in collaborative virtual environments

    Författare :Eva-Lotta Sallnäs; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; collaborative virtual environments; modalities; media richness; social presence; presence; communication media; haptic force feedback; Information technology; Informationsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Humans rely on all their senses when interacting with others in order to communicate and collaborate efficiently. In mediated interaction the communication channel is more or less constrained, and humans have to cope with the fact that they cannot get all the information that they get in face-to-face interaction. 3. 3. Pictures and a Thousand Words : Learning Psychology through Visual Illustrations and Testing

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Jägerskog; Fredrik Jönsson; Staffan Selander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; learning; multimedia learning; retrieval practice; testing effect; visual illustration; learning styles; visualiser; verbaliser; Subject Learning and Teaching; ämnesdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : For teachers and students to be able to make informed decisions about how to best improve learning, it is important to compare learning strategies that are known to be effective. Both multimedia learning, based on the notion that individuals learn better from words and pictures presented together than from words alone, and retrieval practice, based on the idea that retrieving knowledge from the memory is an active process that has a beneficial impact on learning, have been found robust learning strategies in earlier research. Sammanfattning : During face-to-face meetings, humans use multimodal information, including verbal information, visual information, body language, facial expressions, and other non-verbal gestures. In contrast, during computer-mediated-communication (CMC), humans rely either on mono-modal information such as text-only, voice-only, or video-only or on bi-modal information by using audiovisual modalities such as video teleconferencing. Sammanfattning : The overarching purpose of this study has been to problematise how visual practices and the mediation of affect is linked to the capacity to produce (new) perceptual realities, sensations and imaginaries, ultimately aiming to legitimate or counter-legitimate the hegemonic discourses and practices mobilised in the name of security. The first part of my thesis approaches this matter through an analysis of media cultures and discursive systems circulating within the court and the state military. LÄS MER
