1. Frost-induced deterioration of concrete in hydraulic structures : Interactions between water absorption, leaching and frost action
Sammanfattning : Frost deterioration of concrete can result in severe consequences to the safety, durability and functionality of a structure since it impairs the strength of the concrete. Frost damage may occur to structures that are in contact with water and subjected to frost action. LÄS MER
2. Tuning the polylactide hydrolysis rate without introducing new migrants
Sammanfattning : The possibility to control and tune the hydrolytic degradation rate of polylactide without introducing any new degradation products was investigated by subjecting polylactide with cyclic or linear oligolactic acid additives, and a stereocomplex between the L- and D-enantiomers of polylactide to hydrolytic degradation at 37 and 60 °C for up to 39 weeks. The degradation was monitored by measuring mass loss, molar mass changes, water uptake, changes of surface structure, crystallinity and thermal properties. LÄS MER
3. Surface nanomechanical properties of hydrogels and coatings
Sammanfattning : Characterizing mechanical and wear properties at the nanometer scale emerged as a fascinating and challenging topic in the last decades due to recognition of many interesting and unusual properties of nanomaterials. Due to recent developments of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique, it is now possible to measure nanomechanical properties and topography simultaneously, as well as performing and evaluating wear measurements at the nanometer scale. 4. Material Properties of Bulk Hydrophobic Concrete in a Nordic Environment
Sammanfattning : Concrete in its unaltered form allows the mass transfer of fluids into and out of its microstructure. These fluids can contain detrimental solutes which change the chemistry of the cement paste and/or the corrosion properties of the reinforcement bars, most noticeably hydrogen carbonates (HCO3-), oxygen (O2) and chloride ions (Cl-). 5. Hydrophobic Impregnation of Concrete Structures : Effects on Concrete Properties
Sammanfattning : Hydrophobic impregnations often referred to as water repellent agents, today mainly consisting of alkylalkoxysilanes, are often used on concrete to prolong the service life of the structure. This is accomplished by protecting the reinforcement bars from chlorides or by changing the moisture content inside. LÄS MER
