    Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) is of importance for a number of physiological processes but also plays an important pathophysiological role in cardiovascular disease. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of Ang II in hypertension-related atherosclerosis and vascular disease and to investigate possible anti-atherosclerotic effects of the angiotensin II, type 2 (AT2) receptor.     Sammanfattning : The present thesis focuses on the vascular effects of antimicrobial peptides especially mechanisms involving the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO), which is released from the blood vessel wall during inflammatory conditions such as sepsis. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide stimulates the expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which increases the NO production in vascular tissues or cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). LÄS MER
