  1. 1. Le développement d'aspects phonético-phonologiques du français chez des enfants bilingues simultanés et successifs : Le VOT et la liaison dans une étude de cas multiples

    Författare :Frida Splendido; Svenska som främmande språk; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; French; language acquisition; phonology; L2; L1; 2L1; development; VOT; liaison; critical period hypothesis; bilingualism; child L2;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation describes the development of Voice Onset Time (VOT) and liaison in child second language (cL2) French (L1: Swedish) as compared to simultaneous Swedish-French bilinguals (2L1) and monolingual (1L1) French children. VOT is studied in both languages but liaison only exists in French. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Effects of Age of Onset on VOT in L2 Aquisition and L1 Attrition : A Study of the Speech Production and Perception of Advanced Spanish-Swedish Bilinguals

    Författare :Katrin Stölten; Niclas Abrahamsson; Ulla Sundberg; Kirk Sullivan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; second language acquisition; first language attrition; maturational constraints; critical period; voice onset time; stop production; categorical perception; activation threshold hypothesis; L1 use; highly proficient L2 learners; L1 Spanish; L2 Swedish; Bilingualism; tvåspråkighet;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the role of age in second language (L2) acquisition and first language (L1) attrition. The focus is on Voice Onset Time (VOT) in the production and categorical perception of word-initial L1 and L2 stops in highly advanced L1 Spanish learners of L2 Swedish. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mother tongue - Phonetic Aspects of Infant-Directed Speech

    Författare :Ulla Sundberg; Anne Fernald; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; infant-directed speech; language acquisition; mother-infant interaction; Phonetics; Fonetik; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : Phonetic aspects of mother-infant interaction are discussed in light of a functionalist Mother-infant phonetic interaction (MIPhI) model. Adults addressing infants typically use a speech style (infant-directed speech, IDS) characterized by, for instance, extensive suprasegmental (prosodic) modulations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Detection and Tracking in Thermal Infrared Imagery

    Författare :Amanda Berg; Michael Felsberg; Jörgen Ahlberg; Thomas B. Moeslund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal; infrared; detection; tracking;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal cameras have historically been of interest mainly for military applications. Increasing image quality and resolution combined with decreasing price and size during recent years have, however, opened up new application areas. They are now widely used for civilian applications, e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The acquisition of contrast : a longitudinal investigation of initial s+plosive cluster development in Swedish children

    Författare :Fredrik Karlsson; Kirk P. H. Sullivan; Peter E. Czigler; Marilyn M. Vihman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; phonological contrast; speech development; place and manner of articulation; aspiration; structural complexity; acoustic cues; homonym production; Phonetics; Fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : This Thesis explores the development of word-initial s+plosive consonant clusters in the speech of Swedish children between the ages of 1;6 and 4;6. Development in the word-initial consonant clusters is viewed as being determined by 1) the children’s ability to articulate the target sequence of consonants, 2) the level of understanding of which acoustic features in the adult model production are significant for the signalling of the intended distinction, and 3) the children’s ability to apply established production patterns only to productions where the acquired feature agrees with the adult target, to achieve a contrast between rival output forms.
