11. Studies on the assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins
Sammanfattning : Lipoproteins are water-soluble particles of lipids and proteins, which deliver water-insoluble lipids from intestine or liver to target tissues where the lipids are used as fuel or storage. Lipoproteins consist of a core of hydrophobic lipids surrounded by an amphipatic monolayer of polar lipids and specific proteins, apolipoproteins. LÄS MER
12. Macrophage Activation and AP-1 in Atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : High levels of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL) have been identified as independent risk factors for coronary heart disease. Hypertriglyceridemia is generally associated with an increased expression of inflammatory makers and inflammation is thought to contribute to atherosclerosis and its complications. LÄS MER
13. Inflammatory transcription factors in atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Transcription factors such as nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB), activator protein-1 (AP-1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) may play important roles in atherogenesis, by regulating chronic subclinical vascular inflammation. In the first study, we showed that VLDL activates the proinflammatory transcription factor NF-kB in endothelial cells both in vitro and in vivo. LÄS MER
14. Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins : postprandial metabolism and composition in relation to atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : A relationship between postprandial lipaemia and coronary heart disease (CHD) was established as early as the 1950s. Since then, most attention has been paid to postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) of intestinal origin, i.e. chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants, whereas TRLs of hepatic origin, i. 15. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver
Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation.
