  1. 1. Diversity and Limits of Colour Vision in Terrestrial Vertebrates

    Författare :Lina Roth; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reptiles; Dim light vision; Colour vision; Camera-type eyes; Vertebrates; Mammals; Geckos; Horses;

    Sammanfattning : Most terrestrial vertebrates have colour vision, some perceive a less colourful world and others actually discriminate a wider colour spectrum than humans do. Still, we can all make use of the valuable colour information, which is more rigid than just brightness. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evolution of the Neuropeptide Y System in Vertebrates with Focus on Fishes

    Författare :Tomas Larsson; Dan Larhammar; Svante Winberg; Kenneth H. Wolfe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biology; neuropeptide Y; GPCR; evolution; gene duplication; vertebrates; ray-finned fishes; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gene families in vertebrates often contain more dulicates (paralogs) than in invertebrates. This has been attributed to genome duplications, i.e., tetraploidizations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular characterization and evolution of alpha-actinin : from protozoa to vertebrates

    Författare :Ana Virel; Lars Backman; Kristina Djinovic-Carugo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; evolution; spectrin repeat; intragene duplication; phylogenetic tree; spectrin superfamily; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : alpha-actinin is a ubiquitous protein found in most eukaryotic organisms. The ability to form dimers allows alpha-actinin to cross-link actin in different structures. In muscle cells alpha-actinin is found at the Z-disk of sarcomeres. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Geology, stratigraphy, and fossil vertebrates of Gotland, Sweden : a review

    Författare :Oskar Bremer; Henning Blom; Per Ahlberg; Märss Tiiu; Jan Ove Ebbestad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silurian; Gotland geology; Baltic Basin; extinction events; isotope excursions; atmospheric and oceanic cycles; early vertebrates; scale taxonomy; environmental preferences; vertebrate biozonation.; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Silurian limestones of Gotland, Sweden, and their exceptionally well-preserved fossils have attracted the interest of scientists for more than 200 years. The sedimentary rocks represent approximately 10 million years of time, and were deposited in a shallow, equatorial inland sea named the Baltic Basin. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Silurian vertebrates of Gotland (Sweden) and the Baltic Basin

    Författare :Oskar Bremer; Henning Blom; Per E. Ahlberg; Tiiu Märss; Héctor Botella; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; early vertebrates; vertebrate microremains; scale taxonomy; early vertebrate distribution; environmental preferences; Silurian; Baltic Basin; Gotland; Sweden; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the Silurian, the Swedish island Gotland was positioned close to the equator and covered by a shallow sea called the Baltic Basin. The sedimentary rocks (predominantly carbonates) comprising most of the island today were initially formed in this warm sea, and the relatively complete succession of rocks often contains fossil fragments and scales from early vertebrates, including heterostracans, anaspids, thelodonts, osteostracans, acanthodians, and a stem-osteichthyan.
