11. Time-Resolved Optical Properties of Colloidal CdSe-CdS/ZnS Core-Multishell Quantum Dots in Bioimaging
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have attracted great attention as a novel fluorescent material in the last twenty years. Their superior optical properties such as high brightness and photostability, broad absorption spectrum, narrow and size-tunable emission spectrum, enable them great application in bioimaging. 12. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. LÄS MER
13. Quantum dot biomarkers for tracking endothelial progenitor cells and activated endothelium
Sammanfattning : The development of new visualization techniques is essential in the field of bioimaging to gain deeper knowledge about various medical and biological events at the cellular and molecular levels. Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor nanocrystals which are opening new perspectives in biotechnology due to their powerful optical properties and high stability. LÄS MER
14. Inflammatory transcription factors in atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Transcription factors such as nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB), activator protein-1 (AP-1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) may play important roles in atherogenesis, by regulating chronic subclinical vascular inflammation. In the first study, we showed that VLDL activates the proinflammatory transcription factor NF-kB in endothelial cells both in vitro and in vivo. LÄS MER
15. In vitro models of xenograft rejection : studies on leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions
Sammanfattning : Xenotransplantation is the transplantation of cells, tissues or organs between different species and is a potential alternative to allotransplantation because of the lack of human donors. The pig is believed to be a suitable donor-species to man for medical, technical, financial and ethical reasons. LÄS MER
