1. Seed dynamics and the ecological restoration of hill slopes of Kondoa Irangi, Central Tanzania
Sammanfattning : Improper agricultural practices such as bill slope cultivation, extensive clearing of vegetation using fire over a long period, and to some extent overgrazing have converted the once fertile hill slopes of Kondoa Irangi in central Tanzania into unproductive marginal land. It is 25 years now since reclamation measures were introduced to save the hills from further degradation, but the regeneration process, has been rather slow. LÄS MER
2. The rough journey to access health care : the case of leishmaniasis in the Bolivian rainforest
Sammanfattning : Background: Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infectious disease transmitted by vectors that cause three main clinical syndromes: cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML), and visceral (VL). Since VL is not relevant to this thesis, only CL and ML will be further discussed. LÄS MER
3. Autophagy in Peripheral Neuropathy
Sammanfattning : Peripheral neuropathy includes a wide range of diseases affecting millions around the world, and many of these diseases have unknown etiology. Peripheral neuropathy in diabetes represents a large proportion of peripheral neuropathies. Nerve damage can also be caused by trauma. LÄS MER
4. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome
Sammanfattning : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 5. Color Tuning for Perovskite Light-Emitting Diodes
Sammanfattning : Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are recognized as promising semiconductor materials for a variety of optical and electrical device applications due to their cost-effective and outstanding optoelectronic properties. As one of the most significant applications, perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) hold promise for future lighting and display technologies, attributed to their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), high color purity, and tunable emission color.
