  1. 16. Monitoring climate and plant physiology using deuterium isotopomers of carbohydrates

    Författare :Angela Augusti; Jürgen Schleucher; Vaughan Hurry; Howard Griffiths; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate reconstruction; deuterium; elevated CO2; isotopomer; nuclear magnetic resonance; photorespiration; tree-ring cellulose.; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Climate is changing and it is certain that this change is due to human activities. Atmospheric greenhouse gases have been rising in an unprecedented way during the last two centuries, although the land biosphere has dampened their increase by absorbing CO2 emitted by anthropogenic activities. 2. 17. Diazotrophy and diversity of benthic cyanobacteria in tropical coastal zones

    Författare :Karolina Bauer; Birgitta Bergman; Paul K. Hayes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine cyanobacteria; benthic nitrogen fixation; diversity; diazotrophy; Lyngbya majuscula; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Discoveries in recent years have disclosed the importance of marine cyano-bacteria in the context of primary production and global nitrogen cycling. It is hypothesized here that microbial mats in tropical coastal habitats harbour a rich diversity of previously uncharacterized cyanobacteria and that benthic marine nitrogen fixation in coastal zones is substantial. 3. 18. Cold Acclimation : Dissecting the plant low temperature signaling pathway using functional genomics

    Författare :Catherine Benedict; Vaughan Hurry; Matsuo Uemura; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cold acclimation; functional genomics; microarray; Populus tremula; Arabidopsis thaliana; gene voting; regulon; enhancer-blocking; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The physiological process of cold acclimation protects plants native to the temperate regions of the world from the deleterious effects of low and freezing temperatures. This is achieved by a series of transcriptional, regulatory, and metabolic changes that enable continued growth and survival. Within minutes of exposure to temperatures below ca. LÄS MER

  4. 19. To be together or not to be together : Ca. 100 million years of evolutionary history of the earliest divergent Frankia clade

    Författare :Fede Berckx; Katharina Pawlowski; Barbara Reinhold-Hurek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; root nodule symbiosis; Frankia; actinorhizal symbiosis; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Root nodule symbiosis evolved ca. 100 Mya between a nitrogen-fixing bacterium and the common ancestor to the Fabales, Fagales, Rosales, and Cucurbitales plant orders. Over time the majority of the lineages derived from this ancestor lost their symbiotic capability. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Arsenic accumulation in plants for food and phytoremediation : Influence by external factors

    Författare :Claes Bergqvist; Maria Greger; Sylvia Lindberg; Lena Ma; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arsenic; accumulation; availability; distribution; habitat; phy-toremediation; rhizosphere; redox potential; speciation; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Arsenic (As) appears in the environment as various As species, which may vary in plant uptake and toxicity. Moreover, As exposure may vary between habitat due to availability and speciation, both of which are influenced by redox potential. To decrease As uptake, addition of silicate may be a tool. LÄS MER
