    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells.     Sammanfattning : Abstract: The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate ProstaLund Feedback Treatment® (PLFT®) and the CoreTherm® device with regard to biophysics, mechanisms of action, treatment indications, additional techniques, efficacy and safety in the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).     Sammanfattning : Plasma and urine concentrations of endogenous proteins are frequently used in the diagnosis of kidney diseases and in studies of glomerular filter function. The main issues addressed in these studies were: storage of urine samples for subsequent protein analysis, use of protein concentrations in urine and in plasma in health and as markers of glomerular diseases, and the application of renal plasma-to-urine clearance of endogenous proteins in estimating the size-selectivity properties of the glomerular capillary wall.     Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies of different specificites have been described in association with glomerulonephritis and therefore the aim of this thesis was to improve our knowledge of the different manifestations of autoimmune phenomena which are involved in the glomerulonephritides. Special reference is made to Wegener´s granulomatosis (WG) and microscopic polyangiitis (MP) which are frequently associated with the prevalence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA).
