  1. 16. CYSTATIN C AND NEUROENDOCRINE DIFFERENTIATION IN THE MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AND IN PROSTATE CANCER

    Författare :Thomas Jiborn; Malmö Urologisk cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; androgen deprivation therapy; cysteine protease inhibitor; neuroendocrine differentiation; cysteine protease; male reproductive tract; prostate cancer; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology;

    Sammanfattning : Cystatins are endogenous protease inhibitors that regulate the proteolytic activities of family C1 (papain-like) cysteine proteases, such as human cathepsins B, H, K, L, and S. Cystatin C shows the fastest inhibition and the highest affinity of all cystatins towards lysosomal cysteine proteases in general and is widespread in human tissues and body fluids. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Long-term outcome of vesicoureteral reflux and reflux nephropathy in adults - clinical and radiological aspects

    Författare :Jan Köhler; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; nephrology; Urology; Adults; antireflux surgery; pregnancy; reflux nephropathy; Urologi; urinary tract infection; vesicoureteral reflux; urography;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to study the long-term consequencies of vesicoureteral reflux and reflux nephropathy (RN) in adults, with regard to radiological progression, urinary tract infections, renal functional impairment, hypertension, and to determine if the extent of renal damage can predict the outcome. Attempts to differentiate between acquired and developmental renal damage were also made. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The Balance between Pro- and Antiinflammatory Molecules in ANCA-Associated Vasculitis

    Författare :Sophie Ohlsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Urology; monocyte; SLPI; proteinase 3; ANCA; vasculitis; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : ANCA-associated systemic vasculitis (AASV) is a group of inflammatory disorders, characterized by inflammation and necrosis of blood vessels and frequently granuloma formation. Patients with AASV make autoantibodies, so called ANCA, against proteins present in the granules of neutrophils and monocytes, mainly proteinase 3 (PR3) and myeloperoxidase (MPO). LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In the early 20th century, cancer of the prostate was considered a rare and deadly disease with little to no possibility of cure. Since then, prostate cancer management has improved substantially with earlier detection, hormonal therapy, surgery and radiotherapy of the prostate. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in muscle-invasive urinary bladder cancer : studies on treatment response, tumor draining lymph nodes and blood transfusion

    Författare :Robert Rosenblatt; Amir Sherif; Ola Winqvist; Per Marits; Ralph Peeker; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bladder cancer; neoadjuvant chemotherapy; tumor downstaging; sentinel nodes; blood transfusion; Urology; kirurgi; särskilt urologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Muscle-invasive urinary bladder cancer is a deadly disease. Mortality rates remained unchanged for decades despite radical surgery.After several randomized trials, we today know that cisplatin based chemotherapy given prior to cystectomy, improves survival for every tenth patient.
